Mark 4:3,7 “Behold, the sower went out to sow.. And other seed fell among the thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop.”
Have you ever tried to plant a garden? You know, you think it is going to be this beautiful garden! You have in mind what you think it is going to look like. A beautiful, bountiful garden. Then you figure out gardens do not grow naturally, weeds do.
That seems to be the story of our lives.. planting seeds and pulling weeds. Come to think of it, that really is life. We all have our own weeds that we seem to keep having to pull up. We either pull up the weeds, or they will choke the fruit of the spirit out.
Jesus warned us in Mark 4 about the choking influence of thorns and how they squeeze the life out of potential fruit! The first weeds that Jesus warned about were worries!! Worry, anxiety, being pulled in different directions, distractions are all things He warned us about.
What distracts you? What consumes you with worry?? For me, sometimes my busyness actually distracts me. I like to stay busy, but sometimes I need to pull the busy weed and work on the seeds of prioritizing…. Great things don’t grow naturally, it takes work. A great marriage, a great job, great kids, a great home.. all take work. So what weeds to you need to be pulling and what seeds do you need to be planting??
